Aftermarket exhaust systems for your diesel

So, you've perused around our grand website, learned practically all there is to know about your diesel vehicle, right? Then Kemosabe, it is time to step into the vast world of diesel modification. I forewarn you. After you begin to modify your diesel vehicle, and you realize, just how easy it is to get an extra 150hp out of your truck for less than $1,000. The bug will bite, and you'll be addicted. Trust me, I am, and there is not a 12 step program.

Notes on increasing volumetric efficiency and modifications

The first thing you want to do, especially if you plan to be the fastest in town, before you add a chip/tuner/or programmer; is increase your volumetric efficiency. How do you do that you ask? Well, it's quite simple really. You increase the diameter of the engine exhaust, for one. That reduces back pressure, therefore increasing flow. You also add a less restrictive intake system (see afterMarket intake systems) But for now, we will discuss the exhaust system.

Typical stock exhaust systems on turbo diesel trucks, are between 2.5' in dia. and 3.5' in diameter, with the exception being, late model Dodge Cummins diesels. Which are outfitted with 4' exhaust systems from the factory, and will flow adequately all the way to 500hp(thank you Dodge!), of course, with the emissions equipment(read disclaimer) removed.

There are many, many aftermarket exhaust systems available. From brands such as AFE, MBRP, Silverline, Magnaflow, FlowMaster, and Bully Dog. Some of these brands are available for purchase, right here on D-F-P.com
